Driving around the other day I saw a bumper sticker that read ?STUPID SHOULD HURT.? I laughed out loud and thought, it does we just have so many defenses to stop the pain.
Let me clear one thing up quickly, no one is stupid, only unaware.
Unawareness creates pain. We take actions and assume that the action will bring us happiness or avoid some pain. We think we know what makes us happy and we have tried many times to make ourselves happy. We may get some pleasure for a short while, but long lasting peace does not come until we are aware of our choices.
I stopped my addiction not because that is what good people do, but I finally saw what I was doing was creating pain and suffering.? I gained awareness little by little. I finally saw that I was making my own life ?hell.?
I continued to develop techniques to increase my focus and awareness until I could begin making changes.
Until I gained enough to see that I was making my life hell. Using tools and techniques I continued to focus on increasing my awareness.
We have many defenses that prevent us from experiencing the pain and suffering our actions create. These defenses include denial, minimizing, rationalizing and are only a few of these that we use to keep the pain of our actions hidden from us. Increase your awareness and see your actions for what they are. Are they creating pain or happiness?
