Rubbernecking

Living in a fairly large city gives me the opportunity to be in my car for several hours a week. Anytime there is an accident we have a “rubbernecking party” along the interstate, people slow down and stare at what has happen as though their life depended upon it.

My mentors told me more than once, “you must master your attention to master your life.” Think about what is your objective? Consider how your attention is drawn away from your objectives on a daily basis from the TV, people, gossip, the “to do’s” of your life or rubbernecking at the roadside casualties.

A great tool is to ask yourself, “where is my attention?” and answer that question honestly, even with the asking, it will bring you back to the present moment and get you refocused on your objective.

How else do you rubberneck?
